Marshmallows and Toothpicks

This is a fun activity you can do with your kids to help them build different structures based on simple shapes. The basic supplies you need are marshmallows and toothpicks. The big marshmallows were a favorite among our kids and added alot of variety to our building ideas.


A quick word of caution… adult supervision should be present throughout this activity because of the pointy nature of the toothpicks. We made it through unscathed.

We started by creating basic shapes like triangles and squares because children already recognize these shapes and it gave them practice poking the toothpicks throught the marshmallows. After they got the hang of that it we started adding onto our simple shapes and it was off to the races.
